Nattawut Kasem

Strategic Advisor on Human Rights & Environmental Justice

Biography

Nattawut is a dedicated advocate for human rights, environmental justice, and ethical governance, with extensive experience in tackling human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitative practices in Thailand, ASEAN, and beyound. Through investigative-based policy advocacy and Track II diplomacy, he works to expose systemic abuses, engage policymakers, and push for long-term reforms that protect vulnerable communities. His efforts extend beyond policy, as he collaborates directly with affected workers and frontline communities to document violations and amplify their voices on the global stage. His work has been featured by both local and international media.

At the intersection of environmental and social justice, Nattawut challenges the widening inequalities gap between the powerful and the marginalised in an era exacerbated by economic and ecological crises. He also confronting the interconnected challenges of the Anthropocene (if not Capitalocene) and deepening socio-economic inequalities. By integrating international environmental governance and climate diplomacy with socio-political analysis, he counters the militarisation of climate responses, advocating instead for rights-based approaches to climate mitigation and adaptation. His goal is to ensure that climate action prioritises equity, accountability, and the protection of those most affected by environmental degradation.

His expertise spans a wide range of intersecting issues, including human rights, migration, human trafficking, forced labour, business and human rights, due diligence, international labour standards, human rights measurement, environmental justice, climate equity, and sustainable fisheries management, particularly in countering illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Nattawut has extensive experience in legislative engagement – namely as former legislators, parliamentary committees, and law enforcement advisors – to advance policy reforms that strengthen protections for workers, promote human rights due diligence, and enhance transparency in governance. He has led strategic advocacy efforts with governments, elected representatives, UN agencies, international organisations, diplomatic missions, civil society networks, and grassroots movements, focusing on strengthening human rights protections and promoting sustainable, rights-based economic policies.
